Poetry World Org (PWO), one of India’s oldest community-driven publishing platforms, has announced the official closure of both its Saarthi Project and all previous paid publishing packages.
The company now operates purely as a self-publishing platform, ensuring 100 percent author ownership, transparency, and global reach.
Since its founding in 2015, PWO has helped more than 15 000 authorspublish books in multiple languages and genres, distributing titles across 140 + countries through Amazon, Kindle, Google Books, Flipkart, Ingram, and Repro.
What began as a small literary community has evolved into one of India’s most trusted independent publishing ecosystems, bridging the gap between authors and readers worldwide.
Launched in 2021, the Saarthi Project was PWO’s flagship traditional-style initiative.
Unlike typical “hybrid” models, Saarthi was fully funded by PWO, created to support new and emerging authors who could not afford publishing costs.
Over its run, PWO invested ₹30 lakh (Close to 40,000 USD)to publish and promote 2 500 + authors, covering costs such as:
Professional editing,
Book design and production,
ISBN registration,
Printing and limited marketing.
Saarthi gave thousands of young writers, especially poets, students, and debut storytellers, their first platform to see their names in print.
“The Saarthi Project was our way of giving back to the community,” said a PWO spokesperson.
“We wanted to prove that literature shouldn’t be limited to those who can pay. We funded the dreams of over two thousand writers and built an entire ecosystem that celebrated voices from small towns and big cities alike.”
While Saarthi was purely merit-based, PWO simultaneously offered paid publishing plans for authors who wished to buy professional services such as editing, design, marketing, or distribution.
Over time, however, these two different tracks created confusion in how outsiders labelled the company.
“Some people misunderstood our mixed model and grouped us with vanity publishers,” the spokesperson explained.
“That was never our intent. So, after ten years of service, we decided to simplify everything, one path, one policy, one promise: transparent self-publishing.”
As of 2025:
The Saarthi Project has been officially retired.
All paid publishing packages have been discontinued.
PWO now follows one clear self-publishing framework, where:
Authors retain 100 percent rights and royalties,
They select optional services (editing, design, marketing) based on need and budget,
And every cost is disclosed upfront — no hidden fees, no bundles, no approvals for sale.
Core Publishing: Free submission, ISBN assignment, print-on-demand, and global distribution via Amazon, BrandMybook, Ingram, Flipkart, Google Books, Repro and 50+ channels globally
Optional Services: Authors can purchase professional editing, design, and marketing.
Offline Placements: Real-world exposure through BrandMyBookbookstores, cafés, libraries, and fairs.
Author Grant Program: A selective scholarship fund that continues Saarthi’s spirit by covering part or all costs for exceptional manuscripts.
“We haven’t stopped supporting writers,” the spokesperson added.
“We’ve just made the system fairer, everyone starts equal, and those who truly need support can still receive it through our Author Grant Program.”
This structural shift makes PWO one of India’s first community-led publishers to voluntarily move away from all vanity or hybrid models.
It positions the company firmly within the transparent self-publishing ecosystem, similar to modern international standards followed by platforms such as Amazon KDP and Lulu.
“Our goal is long-term credibility, not quick revenue,” the spokesperson said.
“We believe the future of publishing lies in empowering authors, not exploiting their dreams.”
Global reach in 140 + countries
Community of 15 000 + authors and 200 000 + readers
Editorial quality and design excellence
Optional marketing and offline placements for visibility
PWO continues to operate from its headquarters in Panipat with teams in Chennai, Delhi, Srinagar, and Toronto, serving authors across continents.
The new phase of Poetry World Org focuses on three pillars:
Transparency-clear communication and honest pricing
Empowerment-author ownership and fair royalties
Community -mentorship, events, and reader engagement
